The influenza virus, when it infects the respiratory system, causes what is commonly termed flu. Symptoms are generally those associated with the common cold, like fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes.
How do you contract the influenza virus? Well, it is mainly if you happen to be near an infected person, if he or she sneezes or coughs. You can also get infected if you use the handkerchief of a person with influenza.
Let’s look at some home remedies that provide relief from flu symptoms.
Grate a medium-sized onion, and squeeze out the juice.
Stir in a tlbsp of honey, till it blends well.
Have this 2-3 times a day.
In a cup of water, add 2 tsp of methi or fenugreek powder.
Wash, peel and grate a ½ inch piece of fresh ginger.
Add this to the water, and simmer for about 7-10 minutes.
Strain the liquid.
Now add in 2 tsp of lemon juice and 1 tsp of honey.
Have this a couple of times a day.
Add a dash of lemon juice to a glass of warm water, and gargle several times a day.
Crush a clove of garlic and add some honey to it. Have this 3-4 times a day. You can even chop a clove of garlic fine and swallow with water.
A flu infection can leave you dehydrated and weak, so make sure you drink plenty of liquids, preferably warm. Also, understand what your body wants, and take enough rest.
